HOW TO SCORE THE
BEST ENERGY DEAL
First things first…
Your energy tariff includes the rate you pay for the gas and electricity you use and a daily fee called a standing charge.
Reviewing your tariff regularly is a good habit – it helps ensure you’re getting the best deal. So, we’ve created a step-by-step guide to make finding the best deal a breeze.
It’s likely that your club will be on a fixed or variable rate tariff – but if you’re unsure, ask your supplier or log in to your online account to check.
If you’re on a variable tariff, you might want to consider locking in a fixed energy rate to protect your club from fluctuating prices.
Even if you previously fixed your energy tariff, you might have been automatically placed on a new variable tariff when your contract ended – so it’s worth double checking.
Before you shop around for a new deal, it’s useful to understand how your energy use changes daily, weekly and seasonally. This will help you find a deal tailored to your needs.
If you’re ready to switch
Step 1
You can get a quote direct from a supplier, like E.ON Next or use an Ofgem-accredited price comparison website to compare deals across a range of suppliers. Look online for sites that carry the Confidence Code – a voluntary code of practice that guarantees you’ll find independent, unbiased advice.
Step 2
Choose your new tariff and decide when you want to switch. Here’s some considerations to keep in mind when comparing suppliers:
Contract length
Longer contracts may offer better rates but could have exit fees.
Time-of-use tariffs
Some plans offer cheaper rates at night, which could be ideal if you often use floodlights, heating or cooling in the evenings.
Dual fuel tariffs
If you use both gas and electricity it can often work out cheaper to get both fuels from the same supplier, so opt for a dual fuel tariff.
Going green
Some suppliers like E.ON Next offer tariffs with renewable electricity so you can do your bit for the planet too.
Step 3
When you’ve found the right tariff, you can either switch on a comparison website or directly with the supplier. Your new supplier will handle the switch. We recommend taking a meter reading on the day your switch completes to help work out your final bill with your old supplier.
