You can manually calculate how much a device or appliance costs to run by multiplying the amount of energy used (kWh) by the unit cost of one kWh. You can typically find an appliance’s wattage stamped on the bottom, back or a nameplate.

Here’s a quick example:

If an oven uses 2 kW of electricity, and you use the oven for 2 hours, then you will have used 4kWh.

If the unit cost of 1 kWh is 35p, multiply 35p by 4 and you get a total cost of £1.40.
